Can prolonged use of contraceptives cause infertility problem?

Nowadays, there are several types of contraceptives depend on appearance and medicinal properties for examples: pill, injection, implant and skin attachment.

Contraceptive Pill:
Required continuous using on schedule, becomes ineffective shortly. Sometimes many women who forget to take it or stop using the pill may get pregnancy. Taking birth control pill continuously will not cause infertility problem. Once women stop taking the pill, they can have the ovulation within 1-2 months and menstruation spontaneously. However, in some cases women who have been taking the pill for a long time such as 10 years consumption consecutively, they will have less menstruation due to the body is familiar with this medicine then turns to the body’s adjustment. Actually, once you stop taking the pill, you will have ovulation normally. Therefore, taking contraceptive pill will not cause infertility problem.

Emergency Contraceptive Pill:
Not a great effect on infertility problem as it is required only 2 pills consumption. But this medicine contains high level of hormones then it causes a severe side effect. For example: the delay of menstruation, menstrual spotting, anovulation as well as ectopic pregnancy which is quite dangerous.

Suggestion after using the emergency contraceptive pill. This medicine becomes ineffective within 1-2 months after withdrawal. So, women will have their ovulation and can be pregnant consecutively. Some women can have multiple ovulations in a single cycle once they stop taking the pill recently. These cases can be multifetal pregnancy but not many possibilities.

Contraceptive Injection
This medication creates more issues as the injection has left the residual effect for a long time. In General, the injection types are monthly and quarterly.
The contraceptive injection is making a serious side effect in suppressing your hormones from pituitary gland. The couple who need to have a child after 2-3 years onward of prolonged use, some of them can’t have the ovulation normally then they are unable to conceive. Some cases, women need to wait for 6-12 months before their ovulation return to the normal practice. These may cause from the contraceptive injection possibly.

For any couple who need to have a child while using the contraceptive injection, they might need 1 year in advance. In order to have the physician advise
about medication or type of the birth control.

Contraceptive Implant
It will be placed under the skin inside the upper arm. The old type of contraceptive implant is 6 applicators insertion with 3 years coverage. Its medical properties are similar to the injection type. Meaning after prolonged use, the patient will require 6-12 months for her normal ovulation and fertility. Moreover, the modern type of contraceptive implant is a single applicator insertion with 3 years coverage. It releases some hormones that effective rapidly. After 2-3 months of the extraction, patient can be pregnant spontaneously.

Before withdrawal from any types of contraceptive, the couple need to consult with doctor about the family plan and receive the appropriate birth control.
