Does being obese or overweight make it difficult to have children?

Whether you are a man or a woman, taking care and controlling body weight all have the effect on making it more difficult to have children for any couple. (See how to calculate the body mass index: click)

So, how does obesity cause difficulty in having children?

According to the statistics, the rate of infertility can rise up to 20% in men and women who are overweight.

Men who are obese will have higher body temperature than normal, resulting in less sperm production, poor sperm motility and strength. Moreover, if a man also has diabetes, it will cause less blood circulation around the testicles, leading to less sperm production.

As for women, it can cause irregular periods which can result in anovulation, irregular ovulation, PCOS, and poor egg quality. It also has an effect on pregnancy as it can cause diabetes, high blood pressure, and preeclampsia.

Therefore, body weight also has an effect on having children. If you are one of those people who are obese or overweight, or have struggled with pregnancy, try turning to exercise to reduce weight to the standard so that it can increase chance of getting pregnant naturally.
